**First Time At Auction**
Magna Graecia, Southern Italy, Apulian or Campania, ca. 360 to 325 BCE. A lovely wheel-thrown blackware skyphos with a ring-footed base, gradually-expanding walls, a thin rim, a deep interior cavity, and a pair of applied loop handles. The majority of the pale-orange vessel is covered in a glossy black glaze which is further enveloped in faint areas of silvery iridescence. Noteworthy to this piece is a signature on the base which, though faded, appears to read as "AELAN." A great example that demonstrates skillful technique and beautiful coloration. Size: 6.625" W x 3.5" H (16.8 cm x 8.9 cm).
Provenance: private East Coast, USA collection
