Eastern Europe, Russia, ca. early 19th century CE. A lovely cast-brass three-bar cross with the crucified Christ in the center and smaller scenes in low relief surrounding him. Christ's monogram, IC XC, is displayed on the either end of the lateral bar, and a sign reading, "This is the King of the Jews" rests above him on the short topmost bar. An image of God the Father is shown in the topmost area, and two down-facing cherubs are below that. On the verso is a common Cyrillic prayer which, when translated, reads, "As You were voluntarily raised upon the cross for our sake,/Grant mercy to those who are called by Your Name, O Christ God;/Gladden all Orthodox Christians by Your power,/Granting them victories over their adversaries,/By bestowing on them the Invincible trophy, Your weapon of Peace." Size: 2.3" W x 4.125" H (5.8 cm x 10.5 cm).
