A native of Clifton, Texas, Mauzey was an artist, author, and teacher who devoted most of his life to documenting early 20th century Texas rural life. His work can be found in the public collections of the Art Institute of Chicago (IL), Brooklyn Museum (New York), Memphis Brooks Museum of Art (TN), Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center, Columbia Museum of Art (SC), Birmingham Museum of Art (AL), Dallas Museum of Art (TX), Whitney Museum of American Art (New York, New York), Witte Museum (San Antonio, TX), and the Houston Museum of Fine Arts (TX).
