Michael Frary is recognized as one of Texas's most noted Modernist painters, and held a long respected professorship at the University of Texas at Austin beginning in 1952. During his career Michael received over one hundred seventy-five awards and purchase prizes and earned over 200 one-man exhibitions. In 2007 a retrospective of his work was exhibited at Rockport Center for the Arts.His works are housed in hundreds of private and public collections worldwide including the National Museum of American Art, Smithsonian Institute, Washington, D.C.; the Los Angeles County Museum; the Dallas Museum of Fine Arts; Museum of the Big Bend, Alpine, Texas; the McNay Museum, San Antonio, Texas; the Austin Museum of Art, and many more.
