David Bjurstrom, "Skygazer", graphite on board, 30 x 30", unframed
An Austin, Texas artist originally from Central Point, Oregon, David Bjurstrom is largely self-taught in the photo-realist pencil technique for which he has become known. He studied illustration at Oregon College of Art, and he has won best of show at the National Western Art Show. Western art has always had a strong connection to illustration art, as so many of the pioneer Western artists began their careers in that field--Frederic Remington, N.C. Wyeth, W.R. Leigh and many more. Bjurstrom follows in this Golden-Age tradition that values realism and immediacy of line.
