  • Title: THE NEGRO IN OUR HISTORY Signed
  • Author: Carter G. Woodson
  • Publisher: 1927, The Associated Publishers, Inc. Wash D.C.
  • Edition: 4th edition

Carter Godwin Woodson was a major American historian, author, journalist and the founder of the Association for the Study of African American Life and History. Woodson is the "father of black history". He was one of the first scholars to study African-American history, apart from American history, and received stiff opposition from the Black intelligentsia for doing so. In 1926 he launched the celebration of "Negro History Week", the precursor of Black History Month. P.B. Young Sr. was the Dean of the Negro Press. During his 50-year tenure, The 'Journal and Guide' became the largest selling black newspaper in the South, and one of the most influential Black papers in the United States. Many considered it to be the best edited black newspaper in the country. This volume, though pages are worn and some stained, is a significant association copy linking two major figures from the annals of early 20th century Black activism. Book has been rebound, with new endpapers, in its original red boards.
