Martin RicoÂ’s paintings has realized at ChristieÂ’s Auctions for as high as $81,000.This is a very large painting that can be hung over the fireplace and if re-framed in a gilded frame it would enhance its beautification and captivate any guest .Martín Rico y Ortega was a Spanish painter of landscapes and cityscapes. Rico was one of the most important artists of the second half of the nineteenth century in his native country. The painting depicts A gentlemen riding a horse and buggy through the streets passing taverns with people standing in the streets and heading to a lovely skyscraper. This beautiful cityscape is framed and is an authentic painting by Martin Rico, was inherited from a grandfather. Born in Madrid, Spain, Martin Rico is best known for his brightly colored and detailed depictions of life in Paris and Venice. He achieved great success during his lifetime, with the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York purchasing one of his paintings in 1881 and the Prado Museum in Madrid acquiring multiple works by him in 1904. Artistsignature.com has an authentic Rico signature with double OÂ’s. Estimate 24x72 inches. Signed at right. He was part of a generation of young artists who gravitated toward Paris at mid-century, pioneering the path that would subsequently be followed by Pablo Picasso, Juan Gris, Joan Miró and Salvador Dali, among others.
