Democratic Republic of the Congo.Age: First half of the 20th Century.Delivered with a Certificate of Authenticity from Tribal and Ethnic.Material: Wood, fabric, sisal, encrusted patina from libation and offers. Size: Height 24 cm. Width 17 cm. Depth 18 cm. This mask was from the father of my uncle Marc Du Bois ; Firmin Du Bois ; who worked whole his life in Congo Diamant mines in the Kasai region for the Union Minière. He came back in 1954. He was an keen collector in his pastime. The Kuba Pwoom mask was danced at funerals, boys’ initiations, for entertainment, and may have also functioned for social control.
