Kept by Midshipman Henry (Harry) William Miller (1836-1909) for Captain (later Vice Admiral) Samuel F. DuPont (1803-1865), signed by DuPont throughout. After graduating from the US Naval Academy in 1857, he served aboard the USS "Minnesota" under Capt. Samuel F. DuPont, as part of the East India Squadron, with a US Minister on board. They departed Hampton Roads June 25th, 1857 (he had graduated on June 10th), and arrived in Hong Kong on Nov 6th, 1857. They then traveled to Manila, the Pei-ho River (to Tien Tsin), the Woosing River, the Yan-Tse-Kiang River, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Singapore, Ceylon, Colombo, Bombay, Muskat, Cape Town and back to Boston on June 2nd, 1859. Includes a 13" x 29" fold-out tissue map of the Pie-ho River from its mouth up to Tien Tsin. 15 1/2" x 10 1/2" book, wrapped in oilcloth and inscribed, 220 blue pages. Very good condition.
