Herend Hungary Rothschild Bird pattern, hand-painted porcelain dish, scalloped edge. Marked on reverse with Herend Hungary trademark, the 1930s Herend backstamp reading "HANDPAINTED HEREND HUNGARY" and hand numbered "6164 RO / 27", This mark was in use from 1932-1939.
This gorgeous bowl is decorated with two birds perched in a tree with the necklace belonging to the Baroness Rothschild draped across the branch between them surrounded with four colorful butterflies and insects.

The Rothschild Bird pattern was created in 1860 for the Rothschild family of Europe, and is based upon a family legend, in which birds found a necklace lost by the Baroness Rothschild in her Vienna garden and brought it to a treetop to play with it.
