Incredible Folk Art Scale Model of a Country Fair. A tour-de-force, highly detailed, exquisite rendering of a country fair, early 20th c. Included are carousels, a Ferris wheel, sideshows, games of chance, and hundreds of figures of people and animals. Comes with a thick typewritten catalogue (compiled by the Historical Society of Greece, NY) of 415 detailed technical entries describing "26 amusement games, 127 male adults, 178 female adults, 19 male children, 7 female children, 2 babies, 12 ostrich, 27 horses, 1 pig, 3 chickens, 3 dogs, 1 seal, 1 cooking fire, 1 baby carriage, 6 trees, 1 horse trough..." Provenance: The catalogue goes on to say: "This mechanical toy 'Fair' was purchased in the 1930's from an antique shop on Atlantic Ave. in New York City. It was purchased by Mary Lay Davis (Mrs. Harry I.). The Fair was sold to John J. Wittman in the 1980's and given to the Historical Society of Greece, NY in October, 1986. We have been told that the maker of the Fair was probably an immigrant, possibly Italian." Size: 20'' x 40'' x 27'' (51 x 102 x 69 cm).
