Circa 1870, Edgefield, District South Carolina, attributed to the pottery operation of Lenious and Abner Landrum working in Columbia. It is incredibly rare outside of face vessels that a figural piece such as this survived as this was likely a toy for a child. The piece has the characteristic lyme glaze of the site along with a buff light colored clay body. The tail and beak have old damage, otherwise the piece is in good condition. Wings are incised into the back. H1 3/4" Note: This piece was discovered during the dig of that site prior to the building of an apartment complex over the pottery.
