By John Presley, circa 1840, Edgefield, South Carolina. The jar having a very unique form characteristic of this potters work which is very scarce. The handles are well-sculpted and the body ovoid with a nice slightly runny alkaline glaze. The jar is impressed with the "P" stamp used by John Presley at the upper body. The are two tight hairlines at each side of the jar front and back. There are four nicks the the rim and one nick to a handle, otherwise the jar is in good condition. H15 3/4" Note: This piece is featured in Cinda K. Baldwin's book "Great and Noble Jar" page 50 figure 2.19.
