History of Maker: August Schatz first produced clocks in the mid-19th century. Schatz and a group of business partners including his sons Kurt and Charles and Anton Harder formed Jahresurhenfabrik in 1881. In 1882 the company began making clocks using the Graham escapement, marking the first time 400-day clocks were successfully produced for the market. Schatz created decorative and functional mantel clocks, desk clocks, and later alarm clocks until the factory closed in 1985.
