1811 Fables of Jean de Fontaine French Lit Aesop BEAUTIFUL BINDING Illustrated 2v
Jean de la Fontaine was without question, the most widely read 17th-century fabulist, and perhaps could be rivaled only by Aesop himself. He wrote for what he intended to be a sophisticated French audience; however, his stories provided important lessons on morality for children and adults alike. Many of Fontaine’s fables were adapted from those of Aesop and Phaedrus; though he did take liberties to make them his own.
A rare and incredibly beautiful 1811 French edition, published by Renouard.
