Circa 1900, extremely rare matte green plaque/sign made during the winter of 1899-1900, with raised surface featuring Teco vases of all shapes and sizes, according to Sharon Darling's book "Teco, Art Pottery of the Prairie School" on page 20 this plaque is one of the plaques from the gateposts at the factory at Terra Cotta Illinois that greeted visitors, this extraordinary plaque is being offered for the first time from a long time important private collector (we could not find any records of this being offered on the open market before), heralds the evolution and early days of a new company offering a product called Teco Ware derived from the "Te" in Teco and "Co" in Cotta, "We needed a distinctive name, so I invented "Teco"" said Gates, very good condition, 16.75" x 10.5" x 1.25"
