A letterpress autograph letter signed "Alexr. I. Cartwright" concerning his son Bruce. Cartwright penned: "My wife left a small balance in the hands of your firm, which with your kinde [sic permission I will keep there for the use of my Son Bruce (ours at school...). I have written to Reverend Co. to supply him with books from time to time & to call upon your home for his pay. Mrs. Sartisin may have little care to...for him & she likewise will call for the...I know I am putting you to considerable trouble, but I have no other friend in San Francisco upon whom I should care to call for this & trust you will not refuse me." Cartwright added and then crossed out the postscript: "Mr. Char. C. Harris died on the 13 last of Cancer of the throat & was...yesterday and am having considerable sickness, but not of a dangerous character." Although written on thin paper, the letter is in excellent condition.
