Description
A stunning cigar cutter and lighter of J.E. Smith Cigar MFR, cast iron and with a superb nickel finish but displaying very little wear for its age. Complete with cigar cutter, two ashtrays and match dispenser. Has a patent date of Dec. 1, 1896. The cigar is nipped by lifting the tail of the bird, which then dips into the reservoir of matches and piercing one with its beak. When the tail is placed back down the bird removes the match through the mechanism on top where the patent date is shown and that action is meant to light the match. Difficult with today’s safety matches, but it will still dispense the match. Very detailed and in near perfect condition and as of today, the only known example. Condition: (Excellent - Near Mint). Dimensions: 6"T x 7-1/2"W x 5"D.
