613th bomb squadron patch and photograph grouping of Sgt. John B Anderson. The "punching bomb" squadron patch was designed by the famed cartoonist, Walt Disney . The patch measures 5.5" x 4.25". There are approx 100 photographs that range in size from 2" x 2" to 8" x 10" and cover the entire span of Anderson's service with many being annotated. The group is rounded out by a number of documents and letters. The 613th Bomb Squadron was part of the 401st Bomb Group that flew B-17 Flying Fortresses from Deenethorpe, Northamptonshire, from November 1943 to June 1945. Starting their missions at that time meant the focus was very much on the coming invasion attempt of France planned for the following summer. The Group won two Distinguished Unit Citations. The first, awarded to the whole of the 1st Bomb Division, was for an unescorted raid on aircraft factories at Oschersleben on 11 January 1944. The second was awarded to the Group for a raid on Leipzig on 20 February 1944. excellent
