Africa, Nigeria, Ogoni, early to mid 20th century CE. A finely carved, painted wooden puppet head mask displaying several hallmark traits of Ogoni masks such as a petite upturned nose, a face that is painted stark white allowing for a wonderful contrast with the jet black lips, eyebrows, outlined eyes, and centrally parted, braided coiffure. Above the visage is a wonderful edifice - perhaps a birdhouse for a feathered friend. A fabulous Ogoni mask, at once classic and somewhat unique in its design. Size: 9.25" L x 4.125" W (23.5 cm x 10.5 cm)
Provenance: ex-Adeon Gallery, Chicago, Illinois, USA acquired prior to 1970
