Edward Schmidt Young Woman in Profile, 22" x 16",Sanguine Chalk on Canvas, 2015 Edward Schmidt, a founder of the New York Academy of Art (currently Senior Critic),studied at Skowhegan, Ecole des Beaux-Arts and Atelier 17, Paris, Pratt Institute (BFA), Brooklyn College (MFA). He received grants from the National Endowment, Ingram Merrill, Greenshields and Gottlieb Foundations. Mr. Schmidt, Fellow of the American Academy in Rome, received the Arthur Ross Award for Painting, and won, with architect Michael Graves, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art's Clos Pegase Competition. He has had solo exhibitions in New York, San Francisco, Philadelphia, New Orleans, and the University of Shanghai. Museum exhibitions include the Albright-Knox, Arnot Museum, Frye Art Museum, University of Virginia Art Museum, Brooklyn Museum, Gibbs Museum, San Museum of Modern Art, and in France at the Centre George Pompidou. Sordoni Art Gallery, Wilkes University, held a retrospective of his paintings, "Mythologies." Schmidt is represented by the Winfield Gallery, California, and Plus One Gallery, London.
