Lot 0428 Details

Description
A VINTAGE BLUE AND WHITE EARTHENWARE FIGURINE OF ERLANG SHEN, CHINESE, FIRST HALF 20TH CENTURY, the cap with spire finial, over the warrior's downwardly gazing serene face, wearing full armor with dragon motif at shoulders and five repeating auspicious symbols at back, joined by relief lion's or dragon's masks marked on each head with a character translating into "king;" he is fronted by a sword with a sheath made of repeating double happiness medallions, standing on a base of swirling relief waves. Height: 30" Diameter: 11"
Condition
Some craquelure, soil within the crevices, firing cracks, soil likely from burnt offering under hands, auspicious symbols appear to be rubber stamps of underglaze blue decoration, but overall in very good condition, wear commensurate with age and use.
