H. Cyrus Farnum, O/C Landscape

Herbert Cyrus Farnum (American, 1866-1926), landscape with buildings in view, inscribed verso, signed lower left. Frame size: 12" high, 14" wide. "Cy" Farnum, as he was more generally known, was a pupil of the Rhode Island School of Design. Farnum studied at the Academie Julien in Paris under Jean-Paul Laurens and (Benjamin) Jean-Joseph Benjamin-Constant where he won several awards for drawings. He also studied at Académie Colarossi in the evening, studying figure drawing under Jean-Léon Gérôme and Castaigne. He also had the advantage of criticism from Adolphe William Bouguereau. Provenance: Property of a Farmington, Connecticut Estate.
