Has patent info on top right side of bbl. Handguard has 6 rows of holes & 6 protruding rivets. Bayonet extension marked on left side "PAT. JAN. 15 & MAR. 19, 1918". Silver colored bead front sight. Bbl. protrudes approx. 1/2" beyond bayonet lug. Slide bar marked "MODEL 97 WINCHESTER". Walnut stock set. Low fluted comb buttstock marked on right side w/ boxed "WB" & crossed cannons. Green web sling. Replacement plastic Win. buttplate. Buttplate has amateur gunsmith fit. CONDITION: stock set has moderate wear, dents, scratches & staining throughout, but markings are legible. Wrist has several cracks on both sides behind receiver. Slide handle has sm. loss of original finish. Barrel Chamber ring retaining screws not present. Metal has traces of blue turning gray & patina throughout w/ wear & oxidation plus scattered fine pitting. Handguard has sm. brazed repair on left rear & has been refinished w/ notably more finish than balance of metal. Very good shiny bore w/ some fowling streaks likely from plastic shot.
