RIFLE. Cal. 44 WCF. S# 9560. Turnbull restored rifle w/ aged finish. Bbl. 24 1/4" oct. German silver blade Rocky Mountain style front sight w/ sporting rear sight. Top flat has "WINCHESTER'S - REPEATING ARMS, NEW HAVEN, CT. / KING'S IMPREVEMENT - PATENTED - MARCH 29, 1866, OCTOBER 16, 1860" marking. Case colored first model action w/ mortised thumbprint dust cover & single set trigger. Walnut forearm & straight grip rifle stock w/ case colored crescent steel trapdoor buttplate. Stock & forearm cap are fitted w/ sling eyes. Original Winchester hook type sling swivels are included. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Turnbull Mfg. Co. invoice dated 9/12/13 w/ list of services provided: "1 - 26474 - Winchester 1873 44WCF 24" S/N 9560 / 2 - DASS Disassemble, Clean / 3 - REPAIR - Repair lever (slightly bent out) / 4 - POLISH - Polishing of all parts for Color Case Hardening only / 5 - CCL - Color Case - Receiver, side plates, hammer, lever, buttplate, fore end cap / 6- BBLPOLISH - Polish barrel and/or magazine tube / 7 - MARKS - Restore original barrel markings / 8 - RB - Rust Blue - Barrel & magazine tube / 9 - AGE - Age newly-finished parts to match remainder of rifle condition / 10 - ASSEMBLY - Oil, Grease, Reassemble / Invoice Total: $2,980.00". Cody Firearms Museum letter stating the following: "Type: Rifle / Barrel Type: Octagon / Trigger: Set / Received in warehouse on September 22, 1875 / Shipped from warehouse on October 25, 1875, Order number 4551". 4 Piece slotted tip steel cleaning rod w/ brass patch jag. CONDITION: Turnbull finish on all metal parts is aged to appropriately match original wood. Blue parts have dull thinning blue blending w/ spots of intentional light corrosion & finish loss. Action has lightly faded case colors showing spots of surface corrosion & freckling. Wood has original oil finish showing dents, scratches & handling marks. Stock has sm. chip left of lower tang. Both sides of forearm have cracks extending from the cap. Bore retains solid rifling w/ scattered areas of pitting. PROVENANCE: The Harry J. Corbett Collection. (01-15423/DS). ANTIQUE. $5,000-7,500.
