1) F.N. BARGER. Cal. 58. NSN. 36 3/4" Oct. bbl. marked on the top flat "F.N. BARGER". Frederick Barger was born 1813 in Rockbridge County, Virginia & migrated to Ohio in 1836. Iron hammer & drum ignition. Engraved brass lockplate marked "JAS GOLCHER PHILADA". Brass trigger guard, buttplate, toeplate, side plate, entry thimble, bbl. thimbles & nosecap. Wooden ramrod w/ brass tip. Highly figured maple stock. CONDITION: bbl. has a dark patina. Brass has been cleaned but is beginning to acquire a natural mellow patina. Wood is refinished & has minor losses & bleaching around the nipple & lockplate. Very good bore. (01-15178/BF). 2) B. SELLS CONVERSION. Cal. 32. NSN. 34 1/2" Oct. bbl. marked on the top flat "B. SELLS" twice. This early rifle may be the product of Benjamin Sells, Sr. born in 1783 in Pennsylvania & died 1859 in Ohio. Iron hammer & bolster conversion. Engraved brass lockplate w/ illegible markings. Brass trigger guard, buttplate, toeplate, patchbox, entry thimble, ramrod thimble & nosecap. Engraved ovate patchbox w/ thumbnail release. Dbl. set triggers. Wooden ramrod & full figured maple stock. CONDITION: bbl. has a dark patina as does the hammer & bolster. Brass has a mellow patina throughout. Toeplate is missing 1 screw. There is damage to the stock at the toe & age cracks near the wrist. There are some losses around the hammer & a sm. crack in front of the lockplate. Good bore. PROVENANCE: Estate Firearms Collection of Charles McFarland. (01-15199/BF). BOTH ANTIQUE. $700-1000 for lot.
