4 volumes, royal 8vo (252 x 165 mm). Photogravure portrait, 3 large folding maps in portfolio (2 color-printed), 37 plates in two states (one set in half tone, the other printed on india paper mounted). Volume of Scientific reports with frontispiece, 2 color-printed folding maps in rear pocket. Contemporary tan buckram by Zaehnsdorf, dark green morocco labels (slightly darkened and soiled, extremities and labels a little worn).

FIRST EDITION, LIMITED ISSUE, ONE OF 150 DELUXE COPIES SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR, with an extra suite of proof illustrations on India paper mounted on heavy card. Conway led this first major climbing expedition to the Karakoram in 1892, sponsored in part by the Royal Society and the Royal Geographical Society. It was the first exploration and climbing of the Hispar, Biafro, and Baltoro Glaciers, and was the model for most major Himalayan expeditions. They made the first ascent of Pioneer Peak at 6,890m, an altitude record at the time. Conway was president of the Alpine Club from 1902 to 1904. Neate C103; Perret 1088; Yakushi C143.
