This fine and high quality flintlock pistol features a round blued smoothbore steel barrel with top flat. The barrel is decorated with gilt scrolls around the front sight and borders around the breech. There are three French proofs inset and gilded across the top of the breech. The top flat is inscribed in gilt letters which read "CHERET RUE PAVE ST SAUVEUR A PARIS". Touch hole lined with gold. The rounded lock plate features fine chiseling as well as an engraved sliding half cock safety. The cock, frizzen and pin are all decorated en suite. The center of the lock plate is inscribed "Cheret Paris/Rue Pave St. Sauveur". The pistol features highly decorated chiseled and engraved steel furniture, including a side plate in the French taste decorated with engraved arms motifs. The pommel cap is of sterling silver and engraved with a flower in the center. The full length stock of figured walnut has shaped panels of checkering on each side of the grip. Complete with its original horn ramrod with brass attachment at tip and steel cap. CONDITION: Very Good. Barrel retains about 90-95% of reapplied blue finish and gilt decoration. The lock retains an even gray patina with sharp engraving and markings. The steel furniture retains a mostly gray patina with traces of original blue finish in protected areas. Ramrod entry ferrule has a small hole in it. The stock is excellent, showing a few scattered marks from use and some minor marring to checkering. This is a very attractive and high quality French Empire pistol.
