Ornate gold knob stamped "14K", ebonized wood shaft, top of knob engraved "Dr. M. Harwood / Whately Mass."; 31 3/4"L; small chips to wood where gold knob meets shaft, dents to metal tip----In the preface to "History of the Town of Whateley, Mass. 1660-1871, by J. H. Temple, printed in 1872, the author acknowledges various individuals who helped him with historical data. Dr. M. Harwood is one of the names mentioned. The name "Harwood" is found throughout the book and "Myron Harwood" is listed on page 189 as being a doctor in Whately from 1827 "till the present time" (1871). Geneology on pages 241 and 242 shows a son "Myron" being born on August 16, 1799, to John and Hannah Harwood. Myron Harwood, MD, married Judith W. Allis on December 22, 1831. After her death in 1862, he married Lydia Allis in 1864. He had eight children with the two wives.
