EGNAZIO'S LIVES OF THE ROMAN AND MEDIEVAL EMPERORS

Egnazio, Giovanni Battista. Thick volume in 8vo (156x95 mm), 18th century stiff vellum with handwritten title at spine, red edges, ff. [8], 88, 301, [3].

Scarce first and only Giuntine conterfeit of the Aldine edition, printed by Aldus' heirs in 1516 and 1519. The book is a collection of historical works by Egnazio, especially regarding the lives of the Roman Emperors (from Julius Caesars to Constantinus) and the Holy Roman Empire (from Charlemagne to Maximilian).

Provenance: Near contemporary monogram at title-page, with the date 1568.
