MAY 1492 HANNIBAL AGAINST ROME

SILIUS ITALICUS. Punica. Commentarii Petri Marsi. Venice: Bonetus Locatelli for Ottaviano Scoto, 18 May 1492.
Folio (305 x 215 mm), 19th century half vellum, ff. [156]. Latin text, Roman letter on two columns, 46-62 lines.

SECOND EDITION OF THIS ACCOUNT IN VERSE ON THE WAR BETWEEN HANNIBAL AND ROME WITH THE COMMENTARY OF PIETRO MARSO.

The poem meant to be the ideal sequel of Virgil's Aeneid, describing the second Punic War, from Hannibal's Spanish expedition to Scipio the Elder's triumph at Zama. CONDITION: Small wormholes (restored) at few leaves, affecting few letters; small restored tear at leaf a4, traces of foxing. A good copy.

PROVENANCE: Signature Ex libris Nicolai Lacus maioris at verso of first flyleaf.
