1987. Signed and dated. Watercolor and marker on paper. Great condition. 27.5" w x 19.5" h. Dwight Mackintosh was born in Hayward, CA in 1906. He spent 56 years in institutions beginning at the age of 16. During that time he had shown an aptitude for drawing. After his release from the California State Hospital system in 1978, he started attending Creative Growth Art Center in Oakland, CA sparking off twenty years of image making. Mackintosh's work is included in the permanent collections of The Smithsonian in Washington, DC, The American Folk Art Museum in NYC, The Milwaukee Museum of Art, and The Collection de l'Art Brut in Lausanne, Switzerland. Lots 293-299 were all acquired at the Creative Growth Art Center in Oakland, CA in the early 1990's by the former Client Services Coordinator from the mid 1980's until 2003. Mackintosh was the first of the center's artists to be discovered and to become a nationally and internationally recognized outsider artist.
