The line is clearly drawn in this 2-sheet creation–to one side, the dank, worry-filled world of absinthe and bitters consumption, an existence shaded with anxiety and malaise; to the other, the sunny, happy-family world of those who imbibe St. Raphaël quinquina. It’s interesting to see the words “Hygienic Consumption” used in association with an aperitif, but the ad-line at bottom promises that “A glass [of St. Raphaël] before every meal is the patent for long life.” And that credo seemingly knows no age limit as the waiter to the right of the oversized off-center bottle has brought a glass for every member of the family at the table. Apparently “long life” begins at a very young age. Belon was a painter whose designs, often in a humorous vein, were regularly exhibited in various French galleries between 1910 and the year of his death, 1927. His posters are not numerous, but always interesting.
It measures 78 1/2 x 50 3/4 inches and is in B- condition (tears at folds & seam).
It has been laid on linen for preservation.
