First American edition of the popular tale which first started as an 1888 serialized novel entitled Sara Crewe: or, What Happened at Miss Minchin's Boarding School, which was published in St. Nicholas Magazine. The Little Princess is an expanded and revised tale of Sara Crewe.


The story of the orphaned heiress has been the basis for successful Broadway productions and several feature films which featured stars such as Mary Pickford and Shirley Temple in the role of Sara. Scarce first U.S. edition.
