X-15: X-Press NASA Flight Research Center Publication Dated April 27, 1962, with Cover Photo of Neil Armstrong, Directly From The Armstrong Family Collectionâ„¢, Certified and Encapsulated by Collectibles Authentication Guaranty.
A NASA newsletter publication related to the research and people of the Flight Research Center, first published in 1955. This particular issue has a great photo of Neil Armstrong on the cover with the following caption:
"AWAY WE GO---Neil Armstrong has smile for Air Force photographer during this 'eyeball' shot taken shortly before Armstrong's April 20 X-15 flight in No. 3 aircraft. The successful mission reached 207,000 feet and 3818 m.p.h. in a test of the airplane's self-adaptive control system."
The X-Press is still being published but now it is named Armstrong X-Press
after the facility which is now named the Armstrong Flight Research Center. The young pilot in this photo could not possibly have known the entire base would one day carry his name. A rare and quite interesting glance at the pre-astronaut days of the "First Man." Lightly toned. Very fine, sealed in a numbered archival sleeve. This lot will include a Statement of Provenance signed by Neil Armstrong's sons, Rick and Mark.
