Ancient Central Asia, Bactria, ca. 3rd to 2nd millennium BCE. A wonderful ensemble of eleven petite beads, each hand-carved from either lapis lazuli or rock crystal. The central rock crystal pendant is ovoid in form and bears an incised eight-pointed star on the flat face. The remaining ten beads are formed from cobalt blue lapis lazuli with creamy white and yellow inclusions. Among the lapis beads are three small turtles, two Egyptian-style scarabs and scaraboids, one triangular stamp, one circular stamp, and three rectangular stamps, all with incised imagery. A beautiful collection! Size of largest (rock crystal): 0.75" W x 0.625" H (1.9 cm x 1.6 cm).
