2nd-3rd century AD. A carved schist frieze fragment with scenes in two registers separated by a band of tendrils and running scroll border above; the upper register depicting a nimbate figure with attendants addressing two crouching figures within a building, dog on the roof and bush behind, small winged figure above the domed cupola; lower register with similar nimbate figure and attendants facing a seated group on ledge with vegetation above; mounted on a custom-made stand. 9.6 kg, 45.5cm including stand (18"). Property of a London Gandharan art collector, acquired in the late 1990s; formerly with various UK sources acquired by them since the 1960s.
