Lot 0048
acrylic on canvas, sign. on the backside, in wooden frame (105 x 105 cm)
Höckelmann was primarily a wood sculptor and known for colored wood reliefs. In addition, he used materials such as styrofoam, straw or silver foil, from which he formed bizarrely proliferating sculptures, which he then painted completely.
It was not until the late 80s/ early 90s that painting became his new central artistic field of experimentation.
The colors were applied directly with the fingers or with a brush, or they were thinned and poured over the lying or standing canvas. Striking is the use of color sprays.
Unusually, the large-format images were processed over months, often over a year. They have numerous overpaintings and in some cases are covered with centimeter-thick color crusts.
M: 98 x 99 cm
