Heiner Meyer was born in 1953 in Bielefeld. At just 19, he already had his first solo exhibition at the Bernhard Hüning gallery in Munster. A year later, he worked as an assistant to Salvador Dali.
In 1977 he began studying liberal arts at the University of Fine Arts Braunschweig, first with Professors H. Albert, L. v. Monkiewitsch, later with Prof. K. Schulz. In 1981 he was appointed master student of Prof. Malte Sartorius and awarded the Rudolf Wilke Prize of the City of Brunswick.
This was followed by teaching assignments, including at the FH Bielefeld in the Visual Communication Department. In 1993, Meyer received a grant from the Ministry of Culture of North Rhine-Westphalia. In the following years, numerous museum-related projects were realized. At the same time, three museums in the Ostwestfalen region presented an overview of the previous works of Meyer. In 1996 he received a travel grant from the Goethe Institut Kansai for Japan. In 2011 he worked in the sculptural field and the first large sculptures were created. Heiner Meyer lives and works in Bielefeld.
Heiner Meyer's work has been shown worldwide in more than 200 group and solo exhibitions. His work is represented in numerous public and private collections.
