Lot 1134
Pair of Civil War-era binoculars, approx. 6" x 4 ¼", of black-painted brass construction and with black leather barrel coverings. Each eyepiece is marked "Lemaire Fab't Paris"Â, with the firm's small bee logo. Each eyepiece is knurled and is independently adjustable. The brass sun shades over the objective lenses are slightly deformed, while the right-hand objective lens shows a large flaw; however, the optics remain quite clear. Shows some wear to the black finish overall, else very good. This firm's binoculars were widely used by both Union and Confederate officers during the Civil War.
