Napoléon Bonaparte was the most prominent Military leader during the French Revolution and led many successful campaigns, dominated European, and global affairs for more than a decade. In the years following the French Revolution and Napoleonic Wars, the French public was interested in the life of Napoleon and his armies. In 1843, French anecdotal author Emile Marco of Saint-Hilaire wrote a biographical treatise entitled ‘History of Napoleon and the Great Army’. This work was a fine illustrated work describing the popular aspects of Napoleon’s military campaigns with Jules David illustrations.
