Jeanette Pasin-Sloan (American, b. 1946), "Untitled (Stripes)", 1993, oil on canvas, signed and dated en verso, 34 in. x 28 in., unframed. Note: Jeanette Pasin Sloan is firmly rooted in the tradition of the still life, yet has added a modern twist to her work through the incorporation of her love for Op art. Her geometric additions shift the genre by having form take importance over subject. Pasin Sloan employs a realistic style of rendering everyday objects, usually highly reflective, through a close-in view. The reflections, patterned background and cropping create what she refers to as “Heroic Materialism.” In describing her process she says: “My best work was always on the edge of disorder. I think it is as much about disorder as harmony and balance."
