The icon painted following the traditional cannons; he holds a book of Gospels and delivers a blessing, with Christ and The Virgin depicted at shoulder height. Overlaid with a very fine, gilded silver, repoussé and chased oklad with cloisonné enameled corners and overall finely chased with strapwork, scrolling vines, and repeating patterns. The oklad hallmarked Moscow, dated 1887, and with Cyrillic maker's mark 'VS' probably for Vasilii Semenov and with 84 silver standard. The painted icon in original, untouched condition, retaining the original varnish coat and the verso covered in velvet. 12.5 inches x 10.75 inches (31.5 x 27 cm).
