In the 1840 Census, John Bayshore is listed as living in Pennsylvania. In the 1850 Census, he is listed as living in Eastern Tennessee and by the 1880s, he is shown as living in Utah. The Poplar dovetailed blanket chest has quite a bit of the original red wash finish, repaired hinges, and the owner's name, John Bayshore and the date 1849 inlaid in Sulphur on the front of the chest. The chest had remained in the Bayshore family descendants until they were closing an older house. The dimensions are 38" long by 21 1/2" tall by 15 1/2" deep. Large single boards dovetailed together make the box of the chest, the feet are dovetailed and there is a scalloped design to the apron.

Condition

The top has slightly warped with age, the feet have lost maybe an inch in height, overall its in remarkable condition.
