CDV of Civil War Confederate Navy Admiral Raphael Semmes (1809-1877), civilian view. Served as the commander of the USS Somers during the Mexican War. Appointed as a commander in the Confederate States navy. He successfully captured over 60 merchant vessels carrying supplies for the Union. Was wounded in June of 1864 and the CSS Alabama sunk off the coast of Cherbourg, France. After returning to America he was promoted to Rear Admiral and given command of the James River Squadron. After loosing his ships in the fall of Richmond, he became a general and led his sailors as infantry. CDV in very good condition.
