This astonishing hand carved archaic jade nephrite dragon phoenix amulet was made in ancient China during the Eastern Zhou Dynasty Warring States Period circa 4th C BC. Here the dragon and phoenix each form a half of the amulet, their bodies decorated in a lovely cloud pattern with an occasional hidden dragon. It's a complex, artistic piece and a beautiful example of Eastern Zhou dynasty jades. It was carved deliberately with undulation. There is alteration to the jade, minor chips to the edges and surface changes consistent with burial over the millennia. This is a genuine ancient dragon piece from the dating to the Eastern Zhou Period not a Qing archaistic style or later reproduction. It is in lovely condition commensurate with it's age and authenticity. The surface changes of course are a delight for any true lover of archaic jade. Weighing 50.6 grams the dragon measures approximately 2 15/16" wide by 2 15/16" tall (75mm x 74mm). This exceptionally rare ancient jade would make a perfect addition to the finest collection of Asian Art. Of course it need not only be displayed but could be worn if desired. Many people believe archaic jade has special healing and medicinal properties and choose to wear rare jade from their collection for this reason. Thanking you for your interest and time.
