A Pierre Jules Mene Gilt Bronze Urn with Hunting Motifs, France, mid-19th century

The urn with lid surmounted by a replaced finial and decorated with spoils of the hunt - fish, rabbit, and bird - in relief, the body decorated with hunting scenes of dogs pursuing a fox and a deer in relief, divided by trees with branches that form the handles, atop a foot formed by relief branches and leaves inhabited by birds and a lizard and a base accented by dogs, snakes, and animal masques over oval motifs.

Condition

Replaced finial, some dulling and rubbing to gilding with some verdigris to crevises of foot and base, and polish residue to crevices throughout, with wear commensurate with age and use.
