Northern Europe, Vikings or Viking Rus, ca. 9th century to 11th century CE. A collection of ten bronze bell-shaped beads and two pretty pale blue glass beads, all from the Viking era. These are strung on a modern sterling silver chain to create a wearable, elegant necklace centered around ancient elements. Finely decorated clothing was a sign of wealth in the Viking period, and buttons like these were used to fasten them tightly to protect against the cold; wet weather that was typical in the North Atlantic and Scandinavia.
