Details: This lot includes the miniature book shown in the corresponding image(s). This tiny volume contains the text of the "freedom oath" found on the Freedom Bell (in German, "Freiheitsglocke") in Berlin, Germany, a bell that was given as a gift from Americans to the city of Berlin in 1950 as a symbol of anti-communism, and was inspired by the American Liberty Bell. Since 1950, the bell has been located in the Rathaus Schoneberg, the former city hall of West Berlin. The text appears in multiple languages.
This volume, measuring approximately .25" x .25", is bound in black leatherette and has a pictorial design depicting a bell stamped in gold on the front cover. The front and rear cover have gilt borders. The book is preserved in a plastic case, with a sliding lid presenting a pasted slip of paper with a picture of the black bear of the Berlin coat of arms. This case is in turn kept within a plastic presentation case with satin lining. A newspaper clipping on a similar book containing the Lord's Prayer is laid in.
