Chinese Terracotta Horse

probably Tang Dynasty (618-907), modeled standing, leaning back slightly on its hind legs, having a strong arched neck with a groove running from ears to withers, two splashes of tan glaze to either side of its back, the rest of the body unglazed, later mounted on a custom base.
h. 25", w. 21"

Provenance: Estate of Jean and Jack Kelley, Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Condition

Structurally sound and in overall good condition. There is a probable repair/restoration at the left elbow, and two past repairs to the lower jaw and to the proper right ear. The tail has a wood armature, which is partially visible due to some minor losses. Small scattered nicks, chips and losses are scattered throughout - all of which are commensurate with age, material and use.
